person equivalent calculation

First of all you have to calculate the number of person equivalent (p.e.) in order to know the size of the reed bed you need.

One person equivalent is the organic biodegradable load having a five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) of 60 gr of oxygen per day.

In the following table you have an indication of how to calculate the number of person equivalent.
(Your local laws may give different indications)

 Type of wastewater
 Persons equivalent
 Residential buildings
 1 p.e. per person
 Hotels
 1 p.e. per guest + 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Campings
 1 p.e. every 2 guests + 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Restaurants
 1 p.e. every 3 table places + 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Cafes
 1 p.e. every 10 guests + 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Cinemas, theatres, conference rooms
 1 p.e. every 10 sits+ 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Schools
 1 p.e. every 6 pupils
 Offices, shops,
 1 p.e. every 3 workers
 Factories  1 p.e. every 2 workers

Once you have calculated the number of persons equivalent it's possible to choose the reed bed surface.
